Hand Thrown Vessels
This series of ice crackle glazed vessels with dark stoneware or porcelain body began in January 2013. The glaze has a striking three dimensional quality with what appear to be scales cascading down into the depths of this transparent glaze.
Ice Crackle Glaze
The ice crackle glaze is known by several names such as snowflake crackle and fish scale glaze, which is an indication of its broad appeal. To achieve this surface the pieces were fired to 1300° centigrade in a reducing atmosphere in a gas kiln.
